Lake Rabun Association is organized as a non-profit, tax exempt organization to promote social welfare, defined as promoting the common good and general welfare of the community as a whole.
LRA’s interpretation of that definition goes beyond involvement on Lake Rabun to include Rabun County as a whole. To that end, LRA members donate their creativity and a significant number of volunteer hours to assist with fundraising events and efforts in support of the Lake Rabun Foundation (a fund at North Georgia Community Foundation – a non-profit, tax exempt charitable organization).
The Foundation’s scholarship and community outreach programs make a meaningful contribution to the Rabun County community as a whole. Fundraising events include the biennial Tour of Homes, the annual Rabun Ramble 5K/10K road race, and other events featuring auctions and various other activities.
Production of Georgia’s Lake Como and a Living History DVD provided a comprehensive history of Lake Rabun in celebration of its Centennial anniversary in 2015. Most recently, LRA volunteers came together to produce Gatherings at Lake Rabun, a cookbook featuring fully tested recipes submitted by LRA members and friends of the lake. LRA Logo Merchandise is available each year at Member Meetings and at various Lakemont locations.
Net proceeds from all these events and products go to the Lake Rabun Fund at North Georgia Community Foundation.
