Water Safety Committee
June 6, 2022 Update
At the May 29 LRA General Meeting the new chair of the Water Safety Committee (WSC) Pat Hickey provided an update regarding concerns about wake surfing safety, quality of life and shoreline property impacts. The WSC is charged with representing the interests of all LRA members, and over the next several months will develop and put forth recommendations to the LRA that will likely include education, enforcement and regulatory components.
The intent of the WSC is to craft sensible and community-oriented solutions that address the concerns of the LRA membership, and we commit to represent all members of the LRA and manage this process in transparent manner. The WSC values and solicits your input, as community ideas will be part of our deliberations to reach recommended collaborative solutions. We also expect to continue to work with the Georgia DNR, Georgia Power Company, elected representatives of the Georgia State Legislature, and the civic associations of both Lake Burton and Lake Seed on this topic.
The eight members of the WSC include: Pat Hickey – Chair, Neal Creech, Forrest Kennedy, Brad Parker, Robert Pittman, Bob Tritt, Thad Warren, and Susan Wilkerson. The WSC will serve as the clearinghouse for broader boating safety and wake surfing concerns. Many concerns and incidents are posted to various social media sites, which we do follow. However, it may be more productive if Lake Rabun residents or LRA members contact the WSC and Pat at [email protected] or reach out to other WSC members directly to share concerns, ideas or thoughts regarding boating safety or wake surfing. The WSC will also work closely with the DNR on any specific boating safety incidents that should occur.
