Lakemont University: Summer 2025 Recap
This summer’s Lakemont University series brought our community together for three memorable events celebrating craftsmanship, creativity, and Appalachian heritage. We began with Wooden Boats of Lake Rabun, highlighting the artistry and stories behind our classic wooden vessels; followed by the Bird Feeder Workshop, a joyful hands-on gathering with materials donated by The Home Depot and led by Assistant Professor Desiree Higgins; and concluded with Anne Pledger’s Foxfire Museum lecture, tracing 59 years of mountain tradition and education. Each event reflected the spirit of learning and connection that makes Lake Rabun so special.
Looking ahead to 2026: LRA members are invited to propose next summer’s Lakemont University lectures using the new Lecture Proposal Form, which can be filled out and submitted directly on the Lake Rabun Association website. If you have a topic you’d like to lead or share—whether it’s history, nature, art, or local lore—please complete the form with your name, contact information, lecture title, and description.
