Day-after Thanksgiving Hike – Flat Creek Schoolhouse to Minnehaha Falls
Join us at both LRA traditional end-of-season events on Friday, Nov 29th. First, work off your Thanksgiving meal with a hike and a history lesson.
Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing, and pecan pie were delicious, but following that feast, it is time to work off the calories at our traditional LRA day after Thanksgiving hike! Our family-friendly tradition continues, and thanks to the generosity of Hal and Julie Taylor and the other Lorelei owners, we will enjoy a hike and learn Lake Rabun’s history.
Please join us at the historic Flat Creek Schoolhouse, located in the Upper Narrows on Bear Gap Road. We will tour the circa-1890 schoolhouse, which was in use prior to Lake Rabun’s impoundment. Julie will provide a “primer” and remind us of its fascinating history!
After our history lesson, we will walk approximately 1.25 miles along Bear Gap Road, offering spectacular views of the Upper Narrows and Joe Mountain. We will then complete our outbound hike at the breathtaking beauty of Minnehaha Falls. The entire hike out and back is 2.5 miles and will take approximately an hour and a half.
So that we can plan for parking and accommodating everyone at the Flat Creek Schoolhouse, RSVP to Pat Hickey at [email protected] or (404) 754-7829 and let us know how many will attend. Please note that due to the season, no restroom facilities are available at the schoolhouse. Due to somewhat limited parking, we encourage you to carpool as well.
