Bears have adapted to living near people, are you willing to adapt to living near bears?
At Lakemont U on August 12, Georgia Department of Natural Resources wildlife biologist Ryan Watts taught us about the habitat and behavior of Rabun County’s healthy bear population. We often see bears around the lake, and Ryan provided data-driven information to help safely manage bear-human interaction. Bear conflicts are different due to bears’ unique biology, behavior, and how they are perceived by humans.
To minimize conflicts, it is essential that bears not become habituated to humans. Here is a summary slide that informs actions you might take to minimize the risk of a bear-human conflict. More information may be found at the website www.BearWise.org.
We thank Ryan Watts for his excellent presentation!
