SUMMARY:Mandatory Boater Education - DNR/USCG Boater Safety Class
DESCRIPTION:State of Georgia Required Boater Education – DNR/USCG Boater Safety Class \nDo you have any boat operators in your household born on or after January 1\, 1998? Georgia law requires that every boat operator (meeting minimum age requirements) born after that date complete this boating safety class. Our LRA in-person class satisfies the requirement – if you pass the test! Plus each participant receives a coveted Lake Rabun boater safety T-shirt and a free lunch! \nThe LRA-sponsored class is taught by U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and DNR personnel\, and our Georgia DNR Warden Jackson Erwin will be in attendance as well. We recommend the in-person class at the Pavilion\, though you may also take an equivalent on-line boating education course on the Georgia DNR website. If you wish to see the on-line version\, go to: https://gadnrle.org/boating-education \nEach participant taking the LRA in-person class needs to pre-register on the Georgia DNR website. Register at: https://license.gooutdoorsgeorgia.com/Event/ViewEvent.aspx?id=43842 \nNote that each participant must have their own valid Go Outdoors Georgia account (same as a State of Georgia hunting or fishing license account) to register as required via the Georgia DNR website link. If you DO NOT already have a Georgia DNR account\, you will have to enter date of birth\, last name\, and the last four numbers of your Social Security number. Account registration must be completed prior to registration for the class. Parents may need to assist their children in registering. \nIn addition to registering on the DNR website\, please RSVP to Pat Hickey below for a lunch head count. \nContact Pat Hickey at pthickeyjr@gmail.com or (404) 754-7829 with any questions.

SUMMARY:Spring Lake Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Spring Lake Cleanup! Get your hands dirty and your clothes wet\, and help keep Lake Rabun beautiful! \nIf you have a boat\, please bring it to help pick up trash. We need as many boats as possible. Whalers\, pontoon boats\, and runabouts work great for shoreline pick up\, and we even have wave runners out there pulling in debris. If you don’t have a watercraft\, there is still plenty to do. Just remember to bring gloves\, sunscreen\, and a hat. We’ll provide the trash bags and trash grabbers. \nVolunteers should meet at Hall’s Boathouse. \nIf you plan to attend\, please RSVP to Melissa and Bob Clinkscales at (404) 218-2879 or at rmclink@aol.com by June 3. We’ll have a complimentary lunch after we finish\, so we need an accurate head count. \nEveryone is welcome! Many people participate in the spring and fall cleanups year after year — which is one of the best testimonies to how much fun it is to spend the day with lake friends helping maintain our beautiful lake.

SUMMARY:Lake Rabun Best Practices - Boater Education/Safety
DESCRIPTION:Lake Rabun Best Practices – Boater Education \nOur LRA-sponsored USCG/DNR class covers a broad array of boating safety subjects\, but this class is a practicum in common sense boat operating tips for our little mountain lake. It is explicitly oriented towards boat operating skills that assure safe boating and towed water sports activities on Lake Rabun’s unique geography. We encourage ALL boat operators on Lake Rabun to attend to learn best practices for navigating\, cruising\, and all varieties of towed water sports. \nWe specifically discuss best practices for wake surfing\, including the screening of an educational video produced by experienced Lake Rabun wake surfers. Advice from that video helps assure the best possible on-the-water experience for all. \nNo matter your level of boating experience\, you will learn something new about your lake! Please RSVP to Pat Hickey at pthickeyjr@gmail.com or (404) 754-7829\, or contact him with any questions.
